Where

Sitting
on the shoreline of the Colorado River, 20 miles south of
Interstate 40, Lake Havasu City is about 150 miles south of Las
Vegas, 200 miles north and west of Phoenix, and 300 miles east
of Los Angeles.
How
are the Taxes?
The
taxes on your home will normally be under 1% of the value of the
home. There is a state sales tax of 5 1/4% and a city sales tax
of 2%. There is also a state income tax. The good news is that
with Arizona's booming economy a number of state taxes have been
dropping for the past several years.
How
are the Medical Facilities?
Excellent!
We have a nearly new, 125 bed full service hospital, which is
has undergone a major expansion. New diagnostic and surgical
suites are being added as well as several dozen new rooms to
meet the growth of our city. There is an Oncology center and a
new outpatient surgical center is open and planning to expand
already. A new 60 bed, private hospital has broken ground. Dozens of physicians in most of the major fields call
Lake Havasu City their home.

are all here! Rotary, Kiwanis, Optimists, Moose, Eagle, and Elk
are all very active in the community along with many others,
both national, international, and local.
Recreation?
Here
is where Lake Havasu City shines! With 45 mile long Lake Havasu
(Havasu means “blue water” in the Chemheuvi Indian
Language), Lake Havasu City offers many things to do and you can
do most of them year round!
Fishing,
boating, water skiing, scuba diving, and sight-seeing on the
lake for starters. There are millions of acres of open, public
land where you can hike, backpack, horseback ride, four-wheel,
and two wheel. And, for every activity, there is at least one
club in town and the community college offers courses in many of
these areas, too.
The
abundance of good weather makes recreational flying another
popular activity. Rock hounding, exploring old mines, and even a
few ghost towns in the area are fun, too.
Laughlin,
Nevada is just 70 miles away if you want to try your luck. The
casinos there rival the best that Las Vegas has to offer. You
don't even have to drive there. There are free bus trips and
several tour companies run large boats up the river to the
casinos. Men's softball, little league, bowling, etc., etc.,
etc., we just don't have enough room here to list them all!

Retirement

Yes,
Right now we have a 120 bed nursing home plus several facilities
that offer various different plans for assisted care living. The
Lake Hills Inn and Prestige Assisted Living Center are skilled
care facilities. There are also several private homes that care
for older people who need some help.
How's
the Weather?
Ideal...
You won't find a better, year round climate anywhere in the
country. Lake Havasu City is located in the Mohave Desert with a
typical desert climate. The coldest months, usually January and
February, see average temperatures in the mid to high 60's in
the day and go down to the upper 40's and low 50's at night.
Summer
months are hot. Daytime high range in the area of 100 degrees.
But the humidity is low. For much of the summer, the humidity
runs under 10%. During the monsoon season, usually the second
half of July and most of August, the humidity will climb to 20%
to 30%. Also the "monsoon season" is the best chance
for rain. And with only an average of 3.5 inches per year, a
summer shower is a welcome treat.
How
Many People Live in Lake Havasu City?
Latest
figures indicate about 52,000 full-time residents. Numerous
homes, mobile homes, and condos are used as second homes either
for weekends or winter retreats. Some of our part-time residents
actually live here for 6 months a year and longer.
How
Big is Lake Havasu City?
Geographically,
Lake Havasu City covers over 26 square miles. Compare that with
the size of many major cities and you'll see why it seems so
uncongested here. There are a number of major US cities that are
not much larger than Lake Havasu City but with 10 to 20 times
the population!
What
About Crime?
Yes,
there is crime, but mostly of the petty variety. We are lucky to
have a very fine city police department made up of 60 uniformed
officers. While that might seem like a rather large force for a
small community, remember that Lake Havasu City is the second
largest tourist attraction in Arizona with over 3 million
visitors per year. Our police department is aided by the Mohave
County Sheriff's Department and the State Highway Patrol.
